Hammer Review: 2010 Trailer Slaughter

Trailer #1: Iron Man 2

This movie may LOOK pretty, but its going to be pretty AWFUL. Like many other films, such as the Dark Knight, they pulled the old actor switcheroo on us, replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle. THAT will work well. They are also using a terrible villain, Whiplash, in a mangled up Armor Wars movie. Instead of ACTUALLY READING the comic that the film is ostensibly based off of, they said "That could be cool." So could a lot of things. Like Antartica.

Trailer #2: Clash of the Titans

I am actually looking forward to seeing this film. A remake of a classic Ray Harryhausen film, this looks like it will actually follow the story of the original. Which isn't hard to do in this case. Starring Sam Worthington, it may just be good enough not to be destroyed by me in the future.

Trailer #3: Prince of Persia

Okay, I admit this one has no official trailer yet, but I have played the games and have big hopes for this film. Just for once I'd like to see a game turned into a GOOD film. Unlike Doom, Max Payne or Super Mario Bros. However, as it is a DISNEY film they probably had to excise everything I enjoyed about the games, turning it into another Pirates of the Carribean-esque money spinner. Let's hope that the writers made a film after playing Sands of Time around 3 times. But they didn't. And they already announced 2 sequels, ostensibly built around the 3 games of the Sands of Time trilogy.

Now to Game Trailers:

BioShock 2:

I'm going to be honest, BioShock is one of my favorite games of all time, just because it had a story that stayed compelling no matter how many times you played it, much like the Silent Hill series of games. From what I've seen of the game, it looks just as good as the first one, although I have the sneaking suspicion that they took from Single-Player mode to make the Online feature better. It looks pretty, and I hope that the game I fell in love with is inside of the armor somewhere. I better get my diving suit ready and go looking.

Mass Effect 2:

The 4th Knights of the Old Republic game released, just kidding. I didn't particularly like it the first one simply because it felt like a ripoff of the Knights of the Old Republic games. This one looks pretty, and has the potential to be something good. But it won't be. Game developers seem to be laboring under the delusion that all we want is explosions and gameplay with no story. Like most games. Like Halo. And Borderlands. And presumably this one. But I'm going to reserve final judgement until after I have played it. I am not looking forwards to this one.
