Hammer Review: 2010 Trailer Slaughter

Trailer #1: Iron Man 2

This movie may LOOK pretty, but its going to be pretty AWFUL. Like many other films, such as the Dark Knight, they pulled the old actor switcheroo on us, replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle. THAT will work well. They are also using a terrible villain, Whiplash, in a mangled up Armor Wars movie. Instead of ACTUALLY READING the comic that the film is ostensibly based off of, they said "That could be cool." So could a lot of things. Like Antartica.

Trailer #2: Clash of the Titans

I am actually looking forward to seeing this film. A remake of a classic Ray Harryhausen film, this looks like it will actually follow the story of the original. Which isn't hard to do in this case. Starring Sam Worthington, it may just be good enough not to be destroyed by me in the future.

Trailer #3: Prince of Persia

Okay, I admit this one has no official trailer yet, but I have played the games and have big hopes for this film. Just for once I'd like to see a game turned into a GOOD film. Unlike Doom, Max Payne or Super Mario Bros. However, as it is a DISNEY film they probably had to excise everything I enjoyed about the games, turning it into another Pirates of the Carribean-esque money spinner. Let's hope that the writers made a film after playing Sands of Time around 3 times. But they didn't. And they already announced 2 sequels, ostensibly built around the 3 games of the Sands of Time trilogy.

Now to Game Trailers:

BioShock 2:

I'm going to be honest, BioShock is one of my favorite games of all time, just because it had a story that stayed compelling no matter how many times you played it, much like the Silent Hill series of games. From what I've seen of the game, it looks just as good as the first one, although I have the sneaking suspicion that they took from Single-Player mode to make the Online feature better. It looks pretty, and I hope that the game I fell in love with is inside of the armor somewhere. I better get my diving suit ready and go looking.

Mass Effect 2:

The 4th Knights of the Old Republic game released, just kidding. I didn't particularly like it the first one simply because it felt like a ripoff of the Knights of the Old Republic games. This one looks pretty, and has the potential to be something good. But it won't be. Game developers seem to be laboring under the delusion that all we want is explosions and gameplay with no story. Like most games. Like Halo. And Borderlands. And presumably this one. But I'm going to reserve final judgement until after I have played it. I am not looking forwards to this one.

A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away…

Star Wars
INFINITIES
The Force Unleashed

The galaxy is on the brink
of total darkness. The evil
GALACTIC EMPIRE has overthrown
the Old Republic and now
holds countless worlds in the
grip of fear.

The Jedi Knights have been all
but destroyed. Only a handful
have escaped Imperial forces,
disappearing into hiding across
the galaxy.

The Emperor's spies have
located a lone Jedi Knight
on the Togruta homeworld of
Shili. The Sith Lord DARTH
VADER has been sent to
destroy her....

The mechanized sound of his breathing terrorized the local Togruta as he disembarked his shuttle. Good. It would make his job easier without interference from the locals. All he had to do was kill Jedi Master Shaak Ti, who is taking refuge on this world. She shouldn’t have been foolish enough to come here. He supposed she came here to blend in. She would never blend in. Unbidden memories of his last time on Shili came to him. It was here that his apprentice Galen Marek had been slaughtered by the insidious Sith lord Count Dooku during the waning years of the Clone Wars, when he had been Anakin Skywalker. He strode through ranks of stormtroopers standing at attention. One of them, the commander, came to him to ask what they should do. He ordered them to make a perimeter surrounding the building. “Shaak Ti,” he boomed, “I know you are in there. I feel your presence.” Shaak Ti exited the building with her lightsaber drawn. “Stand down troopers” he said to the stormtroopers, “I will handle her myself.” Vader sent a cascade of lightning at the former council member, causing her to spasm. It was then that Vader prepared to impale her on his lightsaber, a young Togruta girl wrenched his lightsaber from his hand. Vader killed Shaak Ti by snapping her neck, and then turned to face the child. She was around four or five years old with pale orange skin. It was then that Vader sensed in her a strong potential in the force. The stormtroopers circled around, as if debating shooting the girl. Vader gently retrieved his lightsaber from her and then slaughtered his own troops. He would keep this girl a secret and make her his apprentice…

Twelve Years Later

She heard the mechanized sound of her masters breathing approaching as she knelt meditating. She wondered if he was going to attack her again. She heard the sound of his footsteps stop and heard the distinctive hiss of a lightsaber being ignited. She opened her eyes and kneeled before her master. She noticed he was not attacking her with his lightsaber. It appeared that he was…knighting her? “You have done well, my apprentice. Your skill with the dark side is powerful. You are now ready for a true test of your skills. I am sending you to an orbital TIE factory above Nar Shadda. A Jedi, Rahm Kota, has captured it with is personal militia. I need you to kill him. Then you will be strong enough to help me overthrow the Emperor.” ‘Yes, my master,” she replied. Vader continued “I have chosen you a new pilot. Her name is Juno Eclipse. Do try not to kill this one.” She waited for her master to leave before rising. She began to pack her things to help her prepare for her mission. After packing her meager belongings, she went down to the hangar bay. It was on her way to her ship the Rogue Shadow that she was ambushed by none other than General Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was about to impale her when she noticed he had left an opening and impaled him upon her crimson blade. Sparks flew from the wound, and the hologram of Kenobi vanished. “Ah, Mistress. Another excellent duel.” To which she replied “You caught me by surprise PROXY. I haven’t fought that training program in years. I thought you had erased it.” PROXY was her Imperial training droid prototype 10, equipped with the latest in holographic imagers and a wealth of combat techniques from every known Jedi and Sith. “Tell me about the new pilot” she asked PROXY. “Certainly Mistress.” PROXY then assumed the image of a tall blonde human female wearing an Imperial uniform. PROXY then spoke in clipped tones, with an upper class Coruscanti accent “Juno Eclipse, born on Corulag. Rank: Captain. Youngest ever graduate from the Imperial Academy on Corulag. Participated in the Bombing of Callos.” It was here that the real Juno Eclipse entered. She gasped slightly upon seeing herself speaking to this teenage female Togruta. PROXY dissolved the hologram and spoke to his mistress, “She will be impossible to reprogram.”
